The renovation of ECO Modern Flats was not just a transformation of the buildings, but also an examination and reinvention of each system, including waste. At the time of the renovation, our city did not offer a recycling program for multifamily properties, so we designed our recycling program from scratch. Along with our collaborators at modus studio, we designed and built these recycling stations, and we worked with the City of Fayetteville to put together a plan to deliver recyclables to their facility in South Fayetteville.
The City of Fayetteville Solid Waste and Recycling Division has been documenting our progress. The results of our efforts are in! Between January 2012 and June of this year, we collected 12,900 pounds of glass, paper, aluminum, cardboard, and plastic—that’s almost six and a half tons of waste that have been diverted from the landfill and processed into useful goods!
Our recycling program is part of a move toward multifamily recycling in Fayetteville—another Specialized Real Estate Property, North Creekside Apartments, is one of five communities in Fayetteville to participate in a pilot multifamily recycling program. A permanent collection station was placed there earlier this month. This program has the potential to make a significant impact in our community. We are proud to lead the way!
